AT&T, Colt and CenturyLink retain top three rankings; Orange Business moves to fourth ahead of BT Global Services
BOSTON, MA, March 4, 2020 – Vertical Systems Group’s 2019 Global Provider Ethernet LEADERBOARD results are as follows (in rank order based on retail port share): AT&T (U.S.), Colt (U.K.), CenturyLink (U.S.), Orange Business Services (France), BT Global Services (U.K.), Verizon (U.S.) and NTT (Japan). This industry benchmark for multinational Ethernet network market presence ranks companies that hold a 4% or higher share of billable retail ports at sites outside of their respective home countries.
Eight companies qualify for the year-end 2019 Global Provider Challenge Tier (in alphabetical order): Cogent (U.S.), Global Cloud Xchange (India), GTT (U.S.), SingTel (Singapore), T-Systems (Germany), Tata Communications (India), Telefonica Worldwide (Spain) and Vodafone (U.K.). The Challenge Tier includes companies with share between 2% and 4% of this defined market.
“No provider dominates the upper tier of the global networks segment of the Ethernet services market. At year-end 2019, only a few share points separated the top ranked companies that support business-critical global networks,” said Rick Malone, principal of Vertical Systems Group. “During 2020 we anticipate share shifts as the coronavirus impacts supply chains and service rollouts in heavily affected countries.”

- AT&T continues to rank first on the Global Provider Ethernet LEADERBOARD, followed by Colt in second position and CenturyLink in third position.
- Orange Business moves up to fourth rank from fifth, surpassing BT Global Services.
- 2019 Global Provider LEADERBOARD companies represent four countries – U.S. (AT&T, CenturyLink, Verizon), U.K. (Colt, BT Global Services), France (Orange Business Services) and Japan (NTT).
- Challenge Tier companies represent five countries – U.S. (Cogent, GTT), India (Global Cloud Xchange, Tata Communications), U.K (Vodafone), Singapore (SingTel), Germany (T-Systems) and Spain (Telefonica Worldwide).
- MEF certification is a market differentiator for Ethernet providers and a foundation of the MEF 3.0 framework for advanced services. Orange Business is the first company on the Global Provider LEADERBOARD to achieve MEF 3.0 CE certification. AT&T, Colt, CenturyLink, Verizon and NTT have MEF CE 2.0 certification; BT Global Services is MEF CE 1.0 certified.
The Market Player tier includes all Global Providers with port share below 2%.
